In spring of 2010, Swallows entered the studio with Caleb Scoville to record some new tunes for an upcoming vinyl compilation to be put out later this year by We Made These Records. Swallows original work has shifted into a sound rooted in driving acoustic guitars and thunderous percussion held together with Em Brownlowe’s clear alto croon. The duo’s opening track, “Thanks Kipp” is a compelling song savoring the memory of longtime Swallows producer and friend, Kipp Crawford, who passed away in a tragic bike accident in November of 2009.
Swallows tone it down with melodious guitar picking and beat happy pulse of “Paraguay”, a story detailing lovers who are separated by hemispheres for the greater good. Leaving their contribution with a good note, Swallows remind listeners life is short and should be appreciated to the fullest extent in closing song, “In A Flash”. Though you better like it while it lasts, because this sing-song mantra really is over in a flash.
Jon's record label, We Made These Records, released these three new Swallows songs on a vinyl compilation featuring other Portland based duos, Thee Headliners, Kusikia, Magic Johnson, Hey Lover and Palo Verde in September 2010.
After careful consideration, Swallows has collectively decided to officially disband in 2010. Since 2003, the duo has shared a powerful creative collaboration known as Swallows, however, now it is time to set flight and pursue other outlets for professional and personal growth. The band's dynamic and original sound will always be cherished by the band members, their friends and fans.
